Having your windshield repaired is fairly quick and painless but knowing what to expect will make the process smoother than it would otherwise.
What to expect when you need to change your windshield:
Your windshield can be repaired at an auto glass shop but it is just as common for a mobile service to meet you at work, home or wherever the car will be for a reasonable amount of time.
Most likely during normal business hours Monday through Friday but some windshield repair companies will make after hours or weekend appointments too.
The repair specialist will need access to the car windshield from the inside as well as the outside so plan to have someone available to unlock the car. The specialist will inspect the damage removing any debris and thoroughly cleaning the area. Depending upon the temperature where the car is the windshield may need to be warmed or cooled for best results.
Many times the damaged area will need to be carefully drilled to make sure that the resin will penetrate deeply into the crack. Once this is done the specialist will inject the resin. The resin may need to be cured by the repair person using a UV light for a few moments.
Lastly the windshield will need to be inspected both from outside and inside the vehicle. The repair must not hinder the driver’s sight or interfere with the windshield wipers in any way. Once all of these steps have been completed you shouldn’t have to worry about the damaged area spreading and weakening the windshield.
